UPDATE: M.I.A. Speaks On The Popularization Of “Paper Planes”
Damn Wale.
Who would have thought he’d rip this harder than Hov? Props go to The Exactly
Speaking of M.I.A., I’ve regularly expressed my displeasure with the permeation of “Paper Planes” into mainstream society. I’d been banging Kala for a year before the song caught on. I remember coming down to school sophomore year, driving on Green Street with the windows down, blasting “Paper Planes,” knowing that I was listening to the flyest shit out.
Flash forward to 2008: Not only have they opened an Urban Outfitters on campus, resulting in frat boys wearing keffiyehs, but all these kids think they’re unique for listening to “Paper Planes” late as hell. I even heard the shit coming out of Firehaus last night. Well, I have news for you kids. The producer of the song has even acknowledged that it’s dead. So give it a rest.

Tell me about it…..I was at U of I last weekend and saw these biffs thinking they are really doing something with the way they dress, and as for M.I.A…..that’s messed up because of their recent mainstream success now they have sold out to most hipsters that I know…hmm just to think back to the summer of ‘07 when I saw them at Lala…none of these people knew who M.I.A was…now they claim they everything about them…it’s sad when shit goes mainstream like that.
